Although there are many off-the-shelf systems available in the market, they are very expensive. Encodex has come with a solution where you can leverage Windows SharePoint Services in Project Planning and Tracking

Solution Summary:
Many organizations use WSS for intranet and departmental sites or portals. Encodex has prepared enterprise level Web Parts that can provide a central location for Project Managers to update the Project information and allow users to update the time spent on each project. This way projects information is easily be accessible and shared between all members of the project. Above all the company uses its existing WSS infrastructure and investment. Our Web Parts include timesheets, project plan and project documents. But it can be extended with your specific feature requirements.

Business Challenge:
Encodex has been developing and deploying innovative business solutions to its clients since 8 years. As the client base and projects are increasing, managing and storing project plans and related documents were becoming very clumsy. This was tracked by the respective Project Managers in excel sheet, which is time consuming. Circulation of project related documents became unmanageable. The documents were kept on physical location making access restrictions is heavy tasks for the System Admin. Encodex was wanted to track time spent by its employees on each project on daily as well as monthly basis.

There was a strong need for a common repository where Managers could store, maintain and share project related documents and employees could enter timesheets for every project.

Solution Details:
Encodex uses WSS for its internal portals. We developed a solution based on WSS. We created Web Parts in C#.Net to track resource utilization for each project. These Web Parts integrate with “Windows SharePoint Services”. This system uses “Microsoft SQL Server 2000” as its database.

Following Web Parts make up the entire Project Management System:

  • Project Management: This web part allows Project Manager to create a new project, enter project details like project title, estimated & actual start date, estimated & actual end date, estimated & actual time, tasks, etc.
  • Project & User Mapping: This web part allows Project Manager to map resources to different projects.
  • Time Sheet Management: This web part allows the resources to select the project and task and enter date and time against each task.

Windows SharePoint Services Features Used :
  • Web parts developed using VS .Net “Web Part Library” project.
